Mason Greenwood and Bradley Barcola are the new names who are doing well with goals after scoring again in round three of action and it will be interesting to see where they end when the season is a wrap. But what were the major talking points of the round?

Greenwood shines again in Marseille Win

Mason Greenwood scored twice in one minute to launch Marseille to a 3-1 win over Toulouse in the French league on Saturday.

Greenwood scored in the 16th minute from a sharp angle and in the 17th from in front. The former Manchester United forward has five goals from the first three Ligue 1 matches, matching the record of Mario Balotelli in 2016 with Nice. The goals meant that Greenwood is the second player to score 5 goals in his first 3 Ligue 1 games over the last 50 seasons after Mario Balotelli

The result was inevitable after Greenwood’s double and Frank Magri’s red card in the 27th for tripping Marseille’s Geoffrey Kondogbia.

Nantes stays unbeaten as Brest records first Win

Nantes remains one of the unbeaten teams in League One this season after seeing off Montpellier 3-1 on Saturday.

Nantes had taken the lead through Matthis Albine’s volley but AJ Adams levelled matters in the 30th minute. Moses Simon’s penalty in injury time gave Nantes back the lead and Mostafa Mohamed sealed it late.

Elsewhere, Brest got its first win, 4-0, at home at the expense of winless promoted side Saint-Etienne. Mahdi Camara headed in the opener, and Romain Del Castillo converted from the spot for 2-0 by halftime. Ludovic Ajorque tapped into an open goal in the 77th after a free kick, and Kenny Lala slammed in a penalty after Pierre Cornud was caught pulling Soumaila Coulibaly’s shirt in the box.

Monaco’s progress derailed by Lens

Lens secured a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Monaco, thanks to a perfect header by Zakaria following a cross from Henrique for the home side, and an excellent penalty kick by Frankowski for the visitors in the third round of Ligue 1.

After a goalless first half, the dynamic remained the same until the 84th minute, when the home side took the lead with a great header from Zakaria after a perfect cross from Henrique. However, the visitors didn’t give up and managed to equalize with an excellent penalty kick by Frankowski in the 94th minute.

Zakaria was both the hero and the villain for his team, as he scored the goal but also conceded the penalty that allowed Monaco to equalize.

The results meant that both teams were level in goals and points.

Barcola shining for PSG

Bradley Bacola continued to shine for PSG on Sunday as he bagged his fourth goal of the season to help the club seal a 3-1 win over Lille.

Vitinha had given the visitors the lead from the penalty spot with Barcola doubling their lead. Edon Zhegrova pulled a goal back for the hosts at the start of the second half but Kolo Muani ensured that PSG maintained their two-goal cushion with a stoppage-time header.

The three goals meant that PSG has now scored 13 goals in three games and heads into the international break with a two-point lead at the top from Marseille, Nantes, Monaco and Lens.
