Serie A Season 2024/25

Week Three Review

Round Three of the Italian top-flight action had some mouthwatering clashes with Juventus versus Roma being the pick of the bunch.

With the league taking a rest to give way for the International break, here are some of the major talking points as Inter Milan still maintained the top position on the table.

Juventus versus Roma ends in a stalemate

After demolishing Como and Verona in their first two games of the season, Juventus were given a reality check when they met AS Roma in round Three of action.

The draw left Juve seven points from their first three matches of the new campaign and are now behind leaders Inter Milan on goals scored after a much less inspiring performance.

A draw at Juve, where Roma traditionally struggles, gives coach Daniele De Rossi some breathing room for the international break after a difficult opening fortnight. His team showed a level of defensive discipline which had been lacking in their first two fixtures of the campaign but offered very little else for fans to cheer about.

Rafael Leão fires back at Paolo Di Canio on social media

AC Milan’s Rafael Leão fired back at Paolo Di Canio on social media after the latter called him out and teammate Theo Hernandez in their draw against Lazio.

During a water break, both Leão and Hernandez did not rejoin the team for instructions from coach Fonseca, which caught the attention of fans and pundits with Di Canio calling out the duo’s attitude in the incident.

Taking to X, Leão posted an image of Di Canio performing a Nazi salute. On March 1, 2001, Di Canio made the gesture after scoring a goal for Lazio in a Serie A match against Napoli. The salute was controversial due to its association with fascism, although Di Canio later claimed it was meant as a salute to Lazio fans, not a political statement.

Thuram double helps Inter Milan thrash Atalanta

Inter Milan maintained their unbeaten start to the season when they beat Atalanta 4-0 at San Siro; a ground that they are now unbeaten in 17 league outings.

Inter took the lead after just three minutes through a deflection before Nicolo Barella doubled the lead with a sensational volley.

Thuram was to poke home a third moments into the second half and within eight minutes, the Frenchman had another in near identical fashion, prodding his fourth of the campaign past Carnesecchi when charging onto Mkhitaryan’s knockdown.
